Stone And Strand

CHALLENGE

Stone and Strand – a fast-growing online jewellery retailer proudly based out of NYC – required help to reinforce their position as a go-to millennial brand.

SOLUTION

This positioning was achieved through the establishment of well-defined and simple design principles such as a neutral colour palette and a strong photographic art-direction style. The website is currently in phase one of the build, with phase two being scheduled later in 2018.

We The People

CHALLENGE

We The People – a fashion, lifestyle and travel online destination – required a high-impact website that showcased the visually-focused nature of the content. It was also important that the site felt removed from the expected WordPress blog platforms.

SOLUTION

A visually-driven homepage was created to showcase the depth of the content, along with a flexible inner-page structure that allowed We The People the ability to lay out each blog post in a different way. The result is a website that feels far removed from the monotony of standard blog templates.

Iona Brown

CHALLENGE

Iona Brown, a London-based jewellery designer, approached me to develop a visual identity for her expanding line. Iona’s aesthetic is reflected in her jewellery designs; she uses distinctly minimalist lines, shapes and materials, which in turn informed the visual identity of the brand.

SOLUTION

The logotype, a customised version of GT Sectra Display, was designed to re ect the duel weight of Iona’s pieces, which often run from thick to thin. This was foiled onto duplexed Colourplan business cards, various packaging and a lookbook. The result is a strikingly simple identity for a jewellery brand with a strikingly simple aesthetic.

Sett Surf

CHALLENGE

A long-time surfer (and friend) came to me with a brave new business idea: to launch a premium skincare range for a surf-focused audience.

SOLUTION

A goal was set to avoid the standard ‘core’ surfing imagery and aesthetic; instead, a ‘surf spray’ visual direction was established, using good old handiwork – spray cans and a scanner. This was augmented by a minimalist layout and stylistic approach, creating a cohesive and polished packaging set.

The Scalpel

CHALLENGE

It’s not every day that you get a chance to brand something that will be seen around the world. While at Wordsearch I worked on the conceptual stage of the branding for The Scalpel, a new skyscraper currently being built that will soon change London’s skyline.

SOLUTION

The idea for the identity itself was taken directly from the name; a piercing scalpel cut, sharp on edge to reflect the design aesthetic of the building. This feature was then rolled across the brand collateral using striking die-cuts, creating a memorable brand experience.

James Marshall, Founder, Sett Surf

“Sam is the rare type of graphic designer who is thoughtful and highly creative, but also able to work around business needs and to budget.”

Get in touch – I’m always happy to appraise your branding, give you feedback on an idea, or offer an opinion on how I think you can improve the way you communicate.

NEW BUSINESS IDEA OR A START-UP?

I’d love to talk with you about how I can help you bring your vision to life. I partner with creative collaborators (web developers, photographers, project managers, et al) to offer a full-service approach to brand creation, from the dull-sounding (but very crucial) research and strategy, through to the excitement of brand launch. I also offer an equity-based payment solution for boot-strapping start-ups.

ESTABLISHED BRANDS

If you’re looking to improve how you communicate with your audience, reposition yourself to move on a specific customer segment, or anything else that involves lots of marketing jargon, I’m happy to help.

Or, if you don’t like contact forms, you can email me at hello@samflahertycreative.com.

That’s all folks!
